Conversation with Bibi Zavieh
Founder, New Cube
What has been your favourite online experience thus far?
Josh Smith’s response to the early days of the quarantine period. His outdoor rooftop exhibition High As Fuck featured works he created while in isolation, and depicted New York as a city devoid of its usual life and energy. The virtual showing of his works on an open-air stage became a work on its own.
Otherwise, the silver lining has been all the wonderful studio visits I have attended virtually in the past few months.
Are there any inspiring quotes that have resonated with you at this time?
More than ever, the Persian adage that says ‘This Too Shall Pass’.
Have you launched any online initiatives?
I have always been fascinated by the intersection of Art & Tech and through the years, I've explored various ways to promote contemporary art online. After over a decade in the auction world, I founded NewCube (@newcube.art) in February this year. It's a digital platform for international artists on the rise and in recent months, we have placed works in private and corporate collections around the world. It is my most exciting project thusfar and I cannot wait for the official launch of our website in January 2021.
I am also on the board of another online platform which I co-founded about 5 years ago, @Darz.art and since Covid hit, we have been extremely busy adapting to the virtual-only world. All of this has been very exciting, to say the least!
