Margot Heller has been Director of the South London Gallery (SLG) since 2001, leading the institution through significant change and establishing its international reputation for contemporary art programmes and associated education and outreach work.
In 2010 the SLG expanded its premises in an award-winning project with architects 6a, resulting in a six-fold increase in visitor numbers, and currently is fund-raising to further expand into a former Fire Station on Peckham Road as well as for a permanent garden by Gabriel Orozco. As curator of the exhibitions programme, Heller has worked with scores of artists, including Chris Burden, Ellen Gallagher, Ryan Gander, Rashid Johnson, Thomas Hirschhorn, Steve McQueen, Oscar Murillo and many others.
Prior to joining the SLG, she was Director of Southampton City Art Gallery, Director of Exhibitions at Anthony d’Offay Gallery and a freelance curator. In 2007 she was made a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres. She served two three-year terms on the Government Art Collection Committee from 2002, was a judge for the 2006 Turner Prize and was on the British Council's 2015 Venice Biennale Selection Committee. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to the arts.
Julia Hobsbawm has defined modern knowledge networking and created a system to teach individuals and organisations how to successfully navigate the Age of Overload: the system of Social Health. She is the world's first professor in Networking, having been made Honorary Visiting Professor by London's Cass Business School and has thirty years of experience at a senior level consulting for business.
Today Julia regularly consults, writes, teaches, and gives speeches and workshops on Social Health including its core components: How to manage Knowledge, Networks and Time.
She is the author of several books and articles covering Social Health, networks, communication, women in business, the media and the future of the workplace. She has written and presented the 5 part BBC Radio 4 series "Networking Nation" and the new 'Six Degrees of Connection' for BBC Radio 4. A regular in the London Evening Standard list of London's 1,000 most influential people, she entered the City AM newspaper List of top 100 Entrepreneurs for the first time in June 2015. Whose new book, 'Fully Connected: How to Survive and Thrive in the Age of Overload' will be published by Bloomsbury. She was awarded an OBE for Services to Business in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in June 2015.
Melanie Keen is Director of Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts). Previously, Melanie worked at Arts Council England supporting the development of visual arts and cultural policy and has been an independent curator and consultant. Her curatorial projects include Figures of Speech for Film & Video Umbrella; Oscar Muñoz: Mirror Image for Iniva; A Better Place? with Erika Tan and Melissa Bliss for the Bow Festival. She was a curator at Iniva from 1997 to 2003 and projects include Yinka Shonibare's Diary of a Victorian Dandy and Simon Tegala's Anabiosis. She has contributed to several publications and she also co-wrote Recordings: a selected bibliography of contemporary African, Afro-Caribbean and Asian British art (1996) with Elizabeth Ward. More recently, she has participated in conferences including the March Meeting 2016 at Sharjah Foundation; and Curating the International Diaspora at Asia Culture Centre and the International Curators’ Forum, Gwangju, South Korea. She is co-curator of the forthcoming solo exhibition of new work by Keith Piper entitled Unearthing the Banker’s Bones presented in collaboration at Bluecoat, Liverpool (27 October 2016 – 22 January 2017).
JENNI LOMAX OBE
Jenni Lomax has been the director of Camden Arts Centre, London, since 1990, where she has established a forward thinking programme of international exhibitions, artists, residencies and education projects, all of which have artists and their ideas at the core. She led the organisation through a major building refurbishment scheme which was completed in early 2004. She was awarded the Chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2007, and received an OBE for her services to the Visual Arts in 2009. Before Camden Arts Centre, Jenni developed and headed up the Community Education and Public Programmes at the Whitechapel Art Gallery throughout the 1980’s. Throughout her career she has been involved in an advisory capacity with many arts, education and charitable organisations and has been a member of selection and judging panels for numerous awards and exhibitions including The Turner Prize, Arts Foundation Award and the Jerwood Drawing Prize.
Sophie started her career as an assistant to a Bond Street dealer in 2000. In 2002, after noticing the haphazard nature of traditional gallery recruitment she launched SML as a recruitment agency dedicated to serving the London art market. Since then, the business has expanded exponentially to include executive search and consultancy for a range of museums, auction houses, public institutions, collectors and dealers across four continents. Sophie now focuses on the most senior headhunting briefs and business development.
Having studied art at the Royal Academy in 1994, London-based Persian collector Fatima Maleki completed an Arts course at Christies in 1995. In 1996, she received a Masters in Post War and Contemporary Art from Sothebys, The Maleki collection was established twenty five years ago. It is an extended yet focused collection of international contemporary art comprising of a substantial number of works by leading international artists. In the course of its timeframe, Fatima has amassed a significant number of Arte Povera works, and has been an early champion of post-conceptual art with a particular emphasis on sculpture and painting. Fatima is an ardent supporter of more than twenty art institutions and has fostered and promoted contemporary art globally
Abigail Morris joined the Jewish Museum as Chief Executive in 2012. She introduced a highly successful programme of temporary exhibitions which has substantially increased visitor footfall, vastly improved media coverage and led to a much heightened the profile of the Museum. Abigail has a background in theatre and was Artistic Director and CEO of the Soho Theatre from 1992 to 2005. Under her direction she was responsible for building Soho Theatre in Dean Street and for growing the organisation from a turnover of £200k to £2 million. She has directed many award winning productions in London, New York and national tours. More recently, she has also been Chief Executive of Jewish Women’s Aid and Director of ResponseAbility, a cross-communal Jewish think tank.
Valeria Napoleone is an art collector and patron to a select number of arts organisations. She is a Trustee of the Contemporary Art Society and Head of the Development Committee at Studio Voltaire, she sits on the Boards of the Fashion Arts Foundation of the BFC, the Institute of Fine Arts in NYC, and is a member of the NYU President’s Global Council. In addition to Valeria Napoleone XX Contemporary Art Society, Napoleone launched Valeria Napoleone XX SculptureCenter in September 2015 as a collaborative project that supports the production of a major artwork in a selected exhibition every 12 to 18 months at the New York-based non-profit dedicated to contemporary sculpture.
Valeria received a BA from New York University’s Journalism School and an MA in Art Gallery Administration at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC. Valeria’s collection focuses on female contemporary artists working internationally. Forming an exceptionally close bond with artists, Valeria has supported many of today’s most acclaimed artists at pivotal moments in their careers.
One of the most experienced contemporary art professionals in the market today, Cheyenne was formerly at Sotheby's, where she was Worldwide Head of Contemporary Art. In her new role, Cheyenne will oversee all aspects of 20th Century & Contemporary Art, working closely with Jean-Paul Engelen, Worldwide Head of Contemporary Art, and Hugues Joffre, Chairman of UK and Europe and Worldwide Head of 20th Century Art. She will focus on delivering best-in-class service and engagement opportunities to today's discerning collectors. Working closely with Phillips's global leadership team and specialist departments, Cheyenne will build the company's brand with the goal of significantly increasing Phillips's market share in 20th Century & Contemporary Art.
