Join us for a reflective morning exploring curating, commissioning and the act of creating with care.

We ask that you come prepared having considered what care means to you creatively as there will be an element of participation. At 9:30 am we will hear a talk from curator, advisor and consultant Beth Greenacre, Hospital Rooms Project Curator Mattie Hartley and artists Sutapa Biswas and Victoria Cantons.

The chapel houses a group exhibition titled LIVING MEMORY curated by Beth Greenacre. The exhibition is open until the 27th of October, with featured works by Louise Bourgeois, Gideon Rubin and a sound intervention by Nicolas Godin of musical duo, Air.

The exhibition, hosted by Unity Real Estate, is generously supported by Galerie Karsten Greve.

This event is now at capacity, please email office@awita.london to be added to the waiting list.

About

Sutapa Biswas is a British Indian conceptual artist, who works across a range of media including painting, drawing, film, and time-based media. Her practice questions the complexities of racial and gendered power relations born out of tangled colonial histories and Biswas has developed a powerful language in her practice that transcends questions of histories, time, and space.

Victoria Cantons is a conceptual visual artist currently working out of London, England. Cantons’s artistic work is varied and widely idiosyncratic and is presented in multiple mediums including painting, neon, poetry, text, performance, photographs and videos.

Matilda Hartley is a Project Curator at Hospital Rooms which commissions world class artists to work in partnership with patients and staff to re-envision clinical mental health spaces. Mattie is currently leading a project with Sandwell Children Adolescent Mental Health services (CAMHS), commissioning 13 site specific artworks by leading artists, which are being developed through a rich co-production process with CAMHS service users, staff and community partners. Together, they're transforming CAMHS into a vibrant, joyful, and caring environment.

Beth Greenacre has over 20 years of experience in the art market, working as an experienced and trusted curator, advisor and consultant. She works with private and corporate collectors, commercial and non-for-profit organisations specialising in International Modern, Post-War and Contemporary art. A graduate of The Courtauld Institute of Art and Birkbeck University (University of London), Beth’s previous experiences include co-director of ROKEBY, a London commercial gallery and the curator of the David Bowie collection. In November 2016, she directed the sale of a selection of work from the collection at Sotheby’s which exceeded expectations making $41.1 million by the end of the two-day sale period. Beth continues to work closely with artists supporting their careers and practices from curating exhibitions to placing work with collectors and legacy planning. Recent exhibitions include Living Memory with work by Louise Bourgeois, Gideon Rubin and musician and founding member of Air, Nicolas Godin, housed in the Convent Chapel of the Poor Sisters in Margaret Street, Fitzrovia. She is curator of The AllBright, the Chairperson of the Courtauld Association Committee and is an Advisory Board member of She CURAtes: The Residency.
