Conversation with Sally Shaw MBE

Director, Firstsite

If you were to give advice to your younger self, what would it be?

  1. Don’t spend so much money in COS/Ebay/Vintage shops.

  2. Don’t be afraid of anything.

  3. You won’t have heard of it, but there’s this thing called Instagram and you should buy shares in it.

  4. Tell David Cameron when you see him at No.10 that his European referendum idea is going to turn out B.A.D.

Tell us about a woman, well-known or not, whom you admire and why.
I admire Millicent Fawcett. She changed the world for 8.5million women in 1918 by enabling them to vote. She was a non-violent campaigner who had her sights on the fundamental things that needed to change and she didn’t stop until she got the change she wanted.

Do you collect art?
All the time, 100%, Yes. I have the knowledge, means and power to make a creative, positive difference and every day I try, however I can, to do just that.
