Speaker biographies:
Catherine Petitgas is a notable figure in the art world, recognized for her contributions as a collector, patron, and art historian, with a particular focus on modern and contemporary art, mostly from Latin America. She holds a Master's degree in the History of Modern Art from the Courtauld Institute, London, demonstrating her academic dedication to the field. Petitgas is a lecturer specializing in Latin American Modern and Contemporary Art, and she has been actively involved with several prestigious art institutions. Her roles include membership in the Tate Latin American Acquisitions Committee, the Council of the Serpentine Gallery since 2004, and the Acquisitions Commission of Centre Pompidou.
Additionally, Petitgas is celebrated for her significant contributions to promoting Latin American contemporary art. Her passion and dedication to the art world extend beyond collecting, as she also engages in educational and curatorial projects, emphasizing the importance and influence of Latin American artists on the global art scene. Her work includes chairing the Tate International Council and serving as a member of its Latin America committee, evidencing her deep involvement and leadership in the art community. Beyond her focus on Latin American art, Petitgas has also been recognized as a former trustee of the Whitechapel, chair of Gasworks, and a member of the Serpentine Gallery council.
